“No matter what you are right, if you think you can, you can. If you think you can’t, you can’t.”
Henry Ford
This will always be my favorite quote to repeat when someone I am talking to starts to get down on themselves.
No matter what, you are right!
Our thoughts have amazing power and one of the best things I could have learned from Tony Robbins is how to control that. My hope with this list is to help you thrive at a Tony event so you can come back, put your best foot forward and start living a more purpose-filled life!
- Go all out! Participate in every exercise and do not hold back. Scream, yell, dance, be crazy! There is a power in losing your inhibitions like that. We also have seen the price of that ticket, so if you paid the dough, mimic the show!
- Make a point to teach at least 1 person what you learned after the event is over. Teaching has a way of deepening the information into our bones
- Join Facebook groups-this is your tribe! Find yourself an accountability buddy you can connect with after the event. Staying in a peak state is hard work, find people who can help empower you through this journey.
Health/Wellness
- Get at least 5 hours of sleep-Your body starts to shut down if you are not sleeping, I cannot stress how important this is!
- Find a grocery close to where you are staying so you can bring food if the venue allows-granola bars, sandwiches, crackers, cheese, nuts, veggies, fruit. Anything easy and on the go. The concession lines are long and you don’t want to miss any content! Extra bonus if you can find a grocery close to hotel. Stock up before the event or when you arrive!
- Electrolyte mix and vitamins-Think marathon runner hydration, you don’t only lose water when you sweat, you also lose sodium, chloride, potassium, some say magnesium. So you need to make sure you replenish these as well and not just drink a ton of water. Tony does sell vitamin packages there, and if that is not in budget you can get single packets at the health store for like a $1 or emergen-C works too! Tony keeps the room so cold, you can see your breath, and that means the cold will suck the water out of the air making you even more dehydrated. Mix the ten thousand times you jump up and down, sweat with freezing temperatures and you will get what we call the Tony flu-don’t be that guy- don’t let that happen to you!
Venue
- Pee during the ra ra sessions-Yes, you still need to do the ra ra, so get it in and then pee! You don’t want to pee your pants and you also don’t want to wait in line. Bonus if you find the hidden bathroom and then run for it! Moderating your water intake so you do not get water logged and pee every 5 minutes is a good thing here! You can do this by checking how much you sweat when you do a work out. Weigh yourself right before-workout-weigh again when done. How much did it change?
- Sit somewhere new every day-If you are DWD, your group will sit in new places every day. The goal is to try not to sit next to the same people. Get out of your shell, expand your network, create new relationships!
- If you go with someone, sit separately, you will be going deep and if you are not comfortable sharing the info initially, you will not get the most out of the event if you hold back. Refer to step number 1
- Arrive early to the venue-seats are first come first serve, the lines will be long and you might be in the sun waiting. If you are anything like me, 5 min in direct sunlight and I am red as a lobster 🙂
Travel
- Plan travel for the day before and the day after the event- if your budget permits-If not try to travel as far away from the beginning and end times. You will be at the venue until the wee hours of the morning and don’t want to miss anything.
- Large bag with many pockets-extra points if your bag can double as a cooler-you really only need your book, writing utensils, food and water! They do bag checks so don’t hold up the line with 5 different bags to check!
- Stay at a hotel, Airbnb, VRBO or whatever you choose close to the venue-walking to and from the event is a godsend! Everyone wants to get a ride share and the days are so long, you will be happy your bed is just a 5 minute walk and you don’t have to wait for your uber/lyft/taxi to take you to your bed.
Packing
- Bring 2 water bottles-for water and electrolyte drink mix
- Bring a notebook-he does give a book and I like to make my notes in there. But an extra book is nice for ideas-your mind will be going and you need a dumping place for your thoughts outside of the learning. He does jump around a lot, not always following the book, the video screens do have a page number at the bottom so you know where to go in the book. Key parts can happen fast so being able to write with the quickness on something is a good thing
- Bring extra pens and highlighters-mine started to die and I was so thankful I had an extra and there is always someone around you who is is need of an extra pen!
- Pack lite-Ladies this one’s for you! Trust me, you will not wear the 90 outfits you brought, just your gym clothes!
- Dress warm with layers-bonus if the material is fleece and moisture wicking. You will be jumping up and down A LOT, you will get hot quick and want to take something off (bow chica wow wow) and as soon as you stop you will put it back on (womp womp womp)
- Wear comfortable shoes-unless you are one of those ladies who just cannot go without heels, bring a changeable pair of shoes, you will thank me later, trust me!
- Bring a blanket-There will be times where you sit for long periods and when there is no movement in a cold room, you guessed it, you get cold!
- Winter gloves you can write with-Back to the reference about the cold, it is literally freezing and you will not be able to write any notes if your hands have frozen off.
There you have it! These are my tips and tricks to survive a Tony Robbins event and get the most out of your experience.
