How many incomplete goals do you currently have? 1…50…100?? I know have more incomplete goals than I would like to admit. And if you’re like the rest of us, then chances are you have hundreds of projects that you started and never completed. Hundreds of goals that you told your friends about but never saw through to the end.

And it’s for this same reason, that you find people will roll their eyes at you when you tell them your ‘next big project’. Or when you start a new training program to lose 20 pounds and everyone – including you – knows that you’re not going to last after month two.

Or when you talk about that hot new app you intend to make, the blog, or new business venture.

Or when you talk about that dream trip to Hawaii…

Unfortunately, this is the way of life for many of us. You work unbelievably hard at things you don’t feel passionately about just to put food on your table. Then when it comes to fulfilling your dreams, you are remarkably ineffective.

Completing your goals is about the approach you are taking. It is about making a mental shift to change the way you’re thinking. It’s about being smart about how you approach each goal. Most importantly, it’s about knowing how to choose your goals and how to phrase them, so without a doubt, you will complete your goals.

Why don’t People know what they want?

It is shocking to discover, that even as the extremely intelligent creatures we are, most of us have absolutely no clue what we want from life. I mean you have this wonderful thing called a brain.  The problem is they you know how to use it properly. Humans can do anything. You can do anything. Look around you, see what you have created and accomplished already. Look at what others have created and accomplished.

Thinking about what you really want takes work. It requires focused thinking and effort. And most people would prefer not to do it. They would rather do something that takes truly little thought or effort, like wasting their time on social media. But not you right?

The lesson here? In order for you to really get what you want, then you need to put in the effort to get it. So, make a commitment today and start thinking about what you really want

What Do You Really Want

The number one reason most people do not get what they want is because they don’t even know what they want. How can you get it if you don’t even know what it is?  Let’s take for example the decision of dinner. When it comes time to choose and you ask your partner what they want, 99% of the time you would get answers like:

“I don’t really know”

“I haven’t thought about it”

“I am not sure”

“You Pick”

And so on. Then what happens when you eat? It wasn’t what you wanted. In order to get what you want, you need clarity. Otherwise you will just drift along in your life with no clear direction on where you are going. If you are not clear on what you really want from your life, you can guarantee you will never get it. Start with thinking about what you want and what improvements you want to start making in each of the different areas of your life. Get specific and make sure you do it in the short term and the long term.

Get a pen and plenty of paper, put your phone on silent, turn off Netflix, lock yourself in the closet if you must and take this time to design the life you want going forward.

Don’t worry about how long this will take you. We are talking about shaping your future here and you can take as long as you need.

Divide a sheet of paper in two by drawing a line in the middle. On the left side write the title “What I don’t want” on the right “What I do want”. Remember when I told you to start thinking about different areas of your life and what you wanted? Now we are going to do what I call a brain dump. First, you are going to write down what you don’t want.

Here is a list of life areas to get you started, you can add as many as you want, there is no limit here. This is not an extensive list, just something to get you started.

·         Your finances

·         Your connections/relationships

·         Your job or business (how you make money)

·         Your personal life

·         Your hobbies

·         Your health and wellness

For example, let’s take a look at your finances. If you are sick of living paycheck to paycheck, I want you to write down “I don’t want to live paycheck to paycheck.” Get specific and write down everything in your life currently that you don’t want in the left column. Take your time, I will wait…

All done? Way to go! I’m so proud of you!

Now, in the right column next to each item that you don’t want, you will write exactly what it is that you do want. Same here, get specific and the more detailed the better. At this point, I do not want you to be concerned about how you will achieve anything. In this post, I go over with you exactly how to set your goals, so you achieve them.

My Simple Trick to getting what you want in life

Right now, just let your imagination run wild and write down whatever comes to you. If you don’t want to be overweight, then write on the exact weight you want to be. If you don’t want to be broke, then write down exactly how much money you want to keep in your bank account on a daily basis. Really take your time, get specific and write down exactly what you want. This is going to be the fuel that is going to help propel you into the future of your dreams.
